_Most boundaries between physical regions are not as precise as awatershed. Instead change that fades in from one region to another that is not easily sighted . For example, theRocky Mountains are separated from the Prairies by a zone of foothills. As the name suggests, these are hills at the foot (or base) of the mountains. They are a transition zone.
Natural vegetation are no different , patterns change gradually through transition zones.Ontario is so large that its climate differs a lot from south to north. This has resulted many different types of natural vegetation across the province.
The southern part of the province (Where we are from) was once covered with a broadleaf forest. Large areas of northern Ontario feature coniferous forest. Conifers can survive much colder temperatures than broadleaf trees, such as maple and oak. Between these two forest regions is a transition zone with both species, called the Mixed Forest Region. North of the coniferous forests, there is another transition zone, as forests gradually give way to tundra.
